  • University of Nigeria (UNN)

*The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria. Founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has four campuses – Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – all located in Enugu State and Aba campus in Abia State

The University of Nigeria was the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria, modelled upon the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of the five most reputed universities in Nigeria. The university has 15 Faculties and 102 academic departments. The University offers 82 undergraduate programs and 211 postgraduate programmes.

University of Nigeria (UNN) is a very large coeducational higher education institution with a uniRank enrollment range of 40,000-44,999 students. University of Nigeria (UNN) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

This 60-year-old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations. The admission rate range is 40-50% making this Nigerian higher education organization an averagely selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

  •  Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) was originally founded as ASUTECH on July 30, 1980.

The University was conceived with the aim to establish an institution that must be closely related to society, its industry and above all, serve as a catalyst in the technological advancement of the people, hence the University’s motto remains, “Technology for Service”.

Following the creation of Enugu State in 1991 and the subsequent change of the name of the University to Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Hon, Justice Anthony Aniagolu was appointed the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council with Prof. Julius Onuorah Onah as the Vice Chancellor (1992 – 1996). The Management team under Professor Onah included Dr. Fidelis Ogah as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Mr. F.C. Eze as Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Eneh – University Librarian and Mr. G.C. Akachukwu – Bursar.

  •  Godfrey Okoye University (GOU)

Godfrey Okoye University (GO University) was founded in 2009 by the Very Reverend Father Professor Dr. Christian Anieke for the Catholic Diocese of Enugu. The university, which got its operational license on 3 November 2009 from the National Universities Commission (NUC), belongs to the Catholic Diocese of Enugu in Nigeria. It is the first university owned by a Catholic Diocese in Africa.

In 2009 the university started with 215 students and admitted 1,200 students by the end of 2012.

On 1 December 2013, GOU commenced a week-long programme of activities to celebrate its maiden convocation. 100 students were awarded bachelor’s degrees during the final ceremony on 7 December 2013.

  •  Caritas University (CU)

Caritas University is a private Catholic university in Amorji-Nike, Enugu State, Nigeria. Enjoying both state and ecclesiastical approval, it strives to revive in its community the age-long tradition of Catholic education and the exacting demand of contemporary society for sound education rooted in salubrious life-promoting morality.

Caritas University was approved by the federal government of Nigeria on December 16, 2004. It was officially opened on January 21, 2005 by the federal Minister for Education, Prof. Fabian Osuji. The formal opening was on January 31, 2005. The pioneer students of 250 matriculated on May 28, 2005.

It is the second Catholic university in Nigeria founded by Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Paul Mattew Edeh C.S.Sp, OFR. Although he founded the school, the proprietor of the university is the Congregation of Sisters of Jesus the Savior, a religious congregation of nuns founded by him.

  •  Evangel University, Akaeze (EUA)

Evangel University, Akaeze (EUA) is a private Christian university in Ebonyi state. It is owned by the Assemblies of God Christian denomination. The university was licensed in February, 2012 and commenced academic activities on 27 November 2012 for the 2012/2013 academic session.

The university began operation at its take-off campus in Okpoto with two colleges and one school. It has since been extended to four colleges while work is ongoing in view of a planned move to its permanent campus at Akaeze.

 Full accreditation was obtained from the National Universities Commission, NUC in 2016. The school is one of Nigeria’s least expensive private universities. A 2016 survey report by Economic Confidential described Evangel University as one of the less popular destinations for students seeking admission to higher institutions.

  •  Renaissance University ugbawka (RU)

Renaissance University (RNU), an institution established with excellence as its focus, was one of eight tertiary institutions issued with licence to operate as a Private University in 2005 by National Universities Commission (NUC).

However, of all the eight Private Universities, Renaissance University is unique in the sense that it is the only one that started on a virgin land without infrastructure or utilities. This affected the immediate take off of the University until September, 2007 when the gates of the University were opened to the pioneer students.

Renaissance University’s focus is exclusively on academic, technical and ethical excellence and they set out to change the face of University education in Nigeria through a carefully structured and efficiently executed curriculum aimed at producing the total man who will always be preferred in the job market than the other graduates.

Coal City University (CCU) is a private, non-profit co-educational university in southeastern Nigeria. It was established in in the year 2016. Coal City University is located in the city of Enugu, the capital and largest city of Enugu State. The university has two campuses — one at Emene and the other at Independence Layout, that spread over 432 acres of land. The university currently has over 800 students in its 10 faculties established in 2016.
